My name is John and I am a New York based photographer.
For me photography is all about being in the right place at the right time. I have been taking photos for just over a decade and even still, the joy of finding stories out in the world and getting a shot that no one else would think to stop and take has not faded. I am a big proponent of black and white photography, and shoot a lot of street life in it. I feel that you can sometimes get more feeling out of a photo when the color is stripped away and the raw emotion is allowed to shine through. There is a certain thrill I get when photographing things that are out of my control. It makes the photos feel alive and captures a specific memory. Animals, behind the scenes shoots, and concert photography have helped me hone this skill and have become some of my favorite subjects.
When it comes to portrait photography, I get something out of it that is completely different. Taking portraits is when I get the chance to collaborate and interact with people and work on finding the best shot. I always try to make sure everyone is comfortable in front of the camera and do my best to instill confidence, because aside from the actual photo itself, that is what's most important to me. I will often use my sense of humor to create a comfortable atmosphere and get as genuine a smile as I can. I was always taught to treat people with respect and I believe that that is the key to making memories for those in front of the camera, and taking great photos as the person behind it.
Whether it's on the street or in a studio, photography allows me to add something to the world through art, and I am always looking forward to finding more stories to tell.
